ABOUT

Westerlinck Bo

I am extremely fascinated by the use of design patterns and have explored this thoroughly, both during my architectural studies and in practice. This in order to find flexible and empirical solutions for complex challenges of different projects that fit perfectly with the need of the future inhabitants/users. In my Master’s Thesis ‘Architectural Intelligence - from Pattern Languages, to Parametricism, towards Artificial Intelligence’, I have expanded this research in order to explore other innovative ways of designing as an architect.

I am proud to announce that I graduated with high distinction from my Master's Degree in Architecture and Arts and that I am currently working at 3XN/GXN Architects as an Architect. Besides that I am working as an architect for my own firm, Westerlinck Architecture.

Furthermore I’ve always been passionate about traveling, sketching and photography. Discovering new cultures, their way of living and other ways of designing excites me.

EXPERIENCE

3XN/GXN ARCHITECTS

Architect

I am thrilled to announce that I recently obtained my professional license as a Belgian architect and that I am currently working at 3XN/GXN Architects. 3XN believes that architecture shapes behavior. This informs all their work as they continue to explore ways for enriching the lives of people living and working in and around their buildings.

GXN is specialized in behaviour, circular and digital design. Offices in Sydney, London, New York, Copenhagen and Stockholm. I am very excited to learn and grow within this international firm and am looking forward to the exciting projects ahead.

ARCHITECTS IN MOTION

Architectural Intern/Trainee - Part I

Architects in Motion is a flexible horizontally structured association of architects-specialists who are passionate about technology and innovation within architecture. Through this concept, the individual architect has the space to constantly explore the rapidly evolving world of architecture with a critical mind. I started working here as an Architectural Intern during my Master's studies. Subsequently, I continued as an Architectural Trainee in order to obtain my professional license as an architect.

WORKSHOP GILLES RETSIN

Discrete Timber Assemblies

This workshop explored computational design and fabrication methods for timber assembly, based on the notion of discreteness. This research attempts to combine Programmable Matter and Digital Material thinking with Prefabrication and Modularity in Architecture. The workshop advanced an argument that architectural thinking about Prefabrication and Modularity could benefit from Programmable Matter, redefining architectural parts as versatile, discrete building blocks with programmable properties, that can be assembled into functional buildings.

LAVA - LABORATORY FOR VISIONARY ARCHITECTURE

International internship Sydney - Australia

Laboratory for Visionary Architecture is an international think tank with a focus on research and design. LAVA merges future technologies with the patterns of organisation found in nature to build a smarter, friendlier, more socially and environmentally responsible future. Combining digital workflow, nature’s structural principles and the latest digital fabrication technologies to build more with less. Offices in Sydney, Ho Chi Minh, Stuttgart, Berlin, China and Honduras.

DESIGN STUDIO SOUTH - VIETNAM

International design studio

In February 2019 I participated in the Design Studio South in Vietnam organized by the University of Hasselt, in collaboration with Ton Duc Thang University of Ho Chi Minh City. During this international design studio I designed a recreational environmental centre 'Urban Oasis' in the Vietnamese city Bao Loc.

UNIVERSITAT POLITECNICA
DE VALENCIA

Exchange program

Due to an Erasmus exchange program I studied at Universitat Politècnica de Valéncia in Spain during the first semester of my first Master year. This was an incredible experience that had a big impact on me both as an architect and personally.
