URBAN OASIS

This recreational environmental centre transforms an inaccessible, polluted, unused plot into a a mixed-use public space, which is very accessible, attractive, green and clean. This for both local inhabitants of the small Vietnamese City, Bao Loc, as for possible tourists. Bringing the local people together, stimulating meeting, providing spaces for recreation and events and promoting their local nature and culture simultaneously are the main ambitions of this project.

 

In order to achieve these goals, this project combines an environmental centre with several recreational possibilities. The intruding organic shaped voids immediately organize the various functions inside this pavilion. Furthermore, the roof functions as a public green park, which is directly connected to the lake and creates an added value for the entire project.

 

The beautiful nature, educational exhibitions and workshops raise the environmental awareness. Furthermore several inside and outside relaxation areas will be created in combination with an auditorium, ecological shops, an organic cafetaria and research offices. Several winding routes are possible through and on top of this entire complex and establish fascinating views both on the green voids as on the lake.

 

The bearing column structure is organized by a stretched grid. In addition to this, clustered enclosed spaces and organizational walls store various auxiliary functions. This results in a very flexible building structure, which can ben transformed and adapted to the needs of the inhabitants of Bao Loc, Vietnam.
